Final superfight Matheus Lutes vs. Dante Leon confirmed for ‘KASAI Pro 4’

Another high-level matchup added to an already stacked event on November 10th at Manhattan Center’s Hammerstein Ballroom.

October 9– New York City, NY – KASAI Elite Grappling Championships (KASAI) today confirms that Matheus Lutes and Dante Leon will meet in a superfight at ‘KASAI Pro 4’ on Saturday, November 10 at Manhattan Center’s Hammerstein Ballroom.

“This superfight will be the final one announced for ‘KASAI Pro 4’, and it should be a barn burner” said KASAI CEO Rich Byrne. “We are delighted with the card that we have put together for November 10. We appreciate the extremely positive feedback we have received from the grappling community, and we remain committed to delivering the highest quality events in the sport”.

Matheus Lutes is a brown belt under Marcelo Garcia. The 23-year-old earned a third-place finish at the World Welterweight Championship at ‘KASAI Pro 3’. He earned his place on that card by winning a 30-man no-gi qualifier. Matheus has since been competing in many events, recently earning double-gold at the 2018 IBJJF Pan no-gi in New York.

Rising grappling sensation Dante Leon, is the 2016 IBJJF World no-gi Champion at brown belt. In addition, he won the IBJJF no-gi Pans and IBJJF American Nationals no-gi Championships in 2017. The 22-year-old Canadian grappler, who represents GF Team, steps onto KASAI’s mat again after competing in the ‘KASAI Pro 2’ World Middleweight Championship Tournament. He has most recently also won the middleweight division for the second straight year at the IBJJF no-gi Pan. Having ascended to purple belt under the Gracie Humaitá/Ribeiro Jiu-Jitsu banner, Leon would then join Júlio César Pereira and Vitor Oliveira, receiving his black belt in June 2017.

In addition to Lutes vs. Leon, ‘KASAI Pro 4’ will feature an eight-man World Featherweight Championship Tournament. The athletes competing in this no-gi tournament at 145lbs (65.77kg) include: Ethan Crelinsten, Geo Martinez, Gianni Grippo, Paulo Miyao, John Calestine, Bruno Frazatto, Augusto “tanquinho” Mendes, and Ashley Williams. ‘KASAI Pro 4’ will also feature two additional superfights. Two-time KASAI World Champion Renato Canuto will face the always exciting Edwin Najmi, and KASAI World Middleweight Champion Matheus Diniz will do battle with the ‘King’ Gordon Ryan.
