Garry Tonon and Mansher Khera to Vie for Gold at ‘KASAI Pro’

Tonon and ‘Munch’ will compete in an eight-man tournament for KASAI’s inaugural World Lightweight Championship.

October 23, 2017 – New York City, NY – KASAI Elite Grappling Championships begins assembling a red-hot roster with the announcement of two top signings in Garry Tonon and Mansher ‘Munch’ Khera. Tonon, 26, and ‘Munch’, 25, will don places in KASAI’s eight-man World Lightweight Championship tournament at ‘KASAI Pro – a professional grappling event scheduled December 9 at Greenpoint Terminal Warehouse in Brooklyn, New York.

“We’re delighted to kick off KASAI’s professional grappling adventure with two stellar signings in Garry and ‘Munch’,” said Rolles Gracie, KASAI President. “These two acclaimed martial artists represent an intense, compelling strain of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu that we hope to present for a long time to come.”

Tonon, a Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu black belt under trainers Tom deBlass and Ricardo Almeida, brings a wealth of accolades to KASAI’s battleground, including IBJJF World and Pan American No-Gi Championships. A successful coach in his own right at the Brunswick BJJ academy in New Jersey, Tonon most recently placed third at the 2017 ADCC Submission Wrestling World Championships as part of the New York ‘Danaher Death Squad’ contingent, affectionately named such after world-renowned grappling coach John Danaher.

Khera, who ascended from white belt to black belt under the tutelage of four-time ADCC winner and pound-for-pound grappling great Marcelo Garcia, earned two IBJJF World No-Gi Championships of his own at brown-belt level in 2013 and 2014. Earlier this year, Khera switched teams to begin training with Murilo Santana at Unity Jiu-Jitsu School.

Tickets for ‘KASAI Pro’ will go on sale shortly. KASAI will also announce an official broadcast partner in due course. For the latest information on KASAI events, please visit
