Kaynan Duarte added to 205lb Tournament at ‘KASAI Pro 5’
Four athletes confirmed to battle for the KASAI World Light Heavyweight Championship at the Manhattan Center on April 6th
February 17th– New York City, NY – KASAI Elite Grappling Championships (KASAI) today confirms that Kaynan Duarte will join Felipe Pena, Craig Jones, and Tim Spriggs at ‘KASAI Pro 5’ in the KASAI World Light Heavyweight Championship on Saturday April 6th at the Manhattan Center’s Hammerstein Ballroom.
“This event will be our biggest yet,” said KASAI CEO Rich Byrne. “We are now well on our way to our goal of assembling one of the best brackets that the sport has ever seen.”
Kaynan Duarte is a black belt under Andre Galvao of the Atos Association. He is a rising star of the new generation, having achieved titles such as Abu Dhabi Grand Slam Champion, ACB World Champion, and IBJJF NY Pro Champion.
Felipe Pena is a black belt representing Gracie Barra. He is widely regarded as one of the top fighters of his generation, conquering important titles such as: 2017 ADCC Absolute Champion, 2018 IBJJF World Champion, 2015 IBJJF World No-Gi Champion, and three-time Abu Dhabi Pro Champion.
Craig Jones, FloGrappling’s 2017 ‘Breakthrough Grappler of the Year,’ returns to KASAI for the fourth time. A black belt under Lachlan Giles, he is a four-time IBJJF Pan-Pacific Champion and ADCC breakout star.
Tim Spriggs, a black belt representing the Lloyd Irvin Association, is the 2018 IBJJF World No-Gi Champion. In addition, he won the ADCC East Coast Trials in 2018, and is also the IBJJF World Champion at brown belt.
In addition to Kaynan Duarte, Felipe Pena, Craig Jones, and Tim Spriggs competing in the eight- man World Light Heavyweight Championship Tournament at 205lbs, ‘KASAI Pro 5’ will also feature three superfights. The first match will be Romulo Barral vs. Marcos Tinoco.
