Matheus Diniz and Craig Jones Confirmed For ‘KASAI Pro 2’ World Middleweight Championship Tournament

Former IBJJF No-Gi Pan American champions will compete for gold on April 14 at Greenpoint Terminal Warehouse in Brooklyn, New York.

February 52018 – New York City, NY – KASAI Elite Grappling Championships (KASAI) kicks off the lineup for ‘KASAI Pro 2’ with the signings of Matheus Diniz and Craig Jones. The Jiu-Jitsu black belts, who have won IBJJF World Championships at brown belt and purple belt respectively, will assume two of eight spots in the event’s KASAI World Middleweight Championship tournament.

“We’re delighted to confirm Matheus and Craig as two contenders vying for gold at ‘KASAI Pro 2’,” said Rolles Gracie, KASAI President. “The intensity that both men bring to Jiu-Jitsu competition is exactly the type of action we’re looking to showcase on April 14.”

Diniz, a 24-year-old New York native who rose to prominence under iconic trainers Paulo Rezende and Marcelo Garcia, also won the IBJJF Pan American No-Gi Championship and the IBJJF New York Summer Open Championship at 194lbs and openweight in 2015.

Jones, 26, is no stranger to KASAI’s mat, having faced Murilo Santana at ‘KASAI Pro’ back in December. A black belt under Lachlan Giles, the four-time IBJJF Pan-Pacific Champion sent shockwaves across the international Jiu-Jitsu scene in 2017 with a submission win over Leandro Lo at last year’s ADCC tournament.

“I’m excited to return to KASAI for a chance to win its middleweight championship,” said Jones. “I had a controversial match last time out and was very disappointed with the result. This time I plan to leave a trail of decisive results en route to the belt.”

KASAI Pro 2’ goes down April 14 at Greenpoint Terminal Warehouse in Brooklyn, New York. Card details and ticket information will be announced in the coming days. For the latest information, please visit
