DJ Jackson and Richie Martinez Enter ‘KASAI Pro 2’ World Middleweight Championship Tournament

The ‘Human Honey Badger’ and ‘Boogeyman’ bring their talents to the East Coast on April 14 at Greenpoint Terminal Warehouse in Brooklyn, New York.


February 122018 – New York City, NY – KASAI Elite Grappling Championships (KASAI) adds two more contenders to ‘KASAI Pro 2’s’ World Middleweight Championship tournament with the signings of De’Alonzio Jerome (DJ) Jackson and Richie Martinez. The Jiu-Jitsu black belts and professional MMA competitors join Matheus Diniz and Craig Jones in an eight-man showdown for supremacy at 185lbs.

“In Richie and DJ we’ve signed two tremendous talents who will bring dynamism and grit to ‘KASAI Pro 2’,” said Rich Byrne, KASAI CEO. “We can’t wait to see these styles match up with six other world-class contenders chasing gold on April 14.”

Jackson, 29, is one of the most highly decorated middleweights to compete in Jiu-Jitsu. A black belt under Team Lloyd Irvin, the former wrestler known for his coveted double-leg takedowns has amassed five IBJJF World No-Gi Championship titles between 2009 and 2015 en-route from blue belt to black belt. Jackson most recently won the Copa Pódio Middleweight Grand Prix in 2017 and also claimed three IBJJF World Championships in the gi at lower belt levels between 2010 and 2012.

Martinez, 33, is the first Jiu-Jitsu black belt under Eddie Bravo to compete in KASAI. A representative of the 10th Planet Jiu-Jitsu system, he rose to prominence on the no-gi grappling scene with impressive showings at EBI and Onnit Invitational events. Known for signature Japanese necktie submission, Martinez was an IBJJF World No-Gi Championship runner-up in 2016 and a NAGA Las Vegas Champion in 2014.
