Tex Johnson and Messi Pasarigov added to ‘KASAI Pro 5’ Tournament

Tex and Messi will join the already stacked KASAI World Light-Heavyweight Championship Tournament at the Manhattan Center on April 6th

March 4th– New York City, NY – KASAI Elite Grappling Championships (KASAI) today confirms that Tex Johnson and Messi Patsarigov will join Jackson Sousa, Kaynan Duarte, Felipe Pena, Craig Jones, and Tim Spriggs at ‘KASAI Pro 5’ in the KASAI World Light-Heavyweight Championship on Saturday April 6th at Manhattan Center’s Hammerstein Ballroom.

“Adding Tex and Messi is our final step,” said KASAI President Rolles Gracie. “With the remaining spot going to the man who qualifies at EGC3 this weekend, this card is now complete. We believe it is the most stacked tournament the sport has seen in a long time.”

Aaron Johnson, commonly known as “Tex” Johnson, is a black belt under Philip Smith and Murilo Santana, representing Unity Jiu-Jitsu Academy New York City. An IBJJF three-time Pan American No-Gi Champion, Johnson is known for his aggressiveness. Some of his accomplishments include: ADCC East Coast US Trials Champion (2018), IBJJF Pans No-Gi Champion (2016/2017/2018), and IBJJF New York Spring Open Champion (2017/2018). Tex recently won double-gold at the IBJJF Portland Open.

Muslim Patsarigov, commonly known as “Messi”, is a Jiu-Jiu black belt of Chechen decent. He was trained by coach Felipe “Gargamel” Mota from his academy in Norway. Known for his strong wrestling background, Patsarigov earned his reputation through his winning performances in tournaments such as Abu Dhabi World Pro Championship, World No-Gi Championship and European Open Championship. Other accolades include the No-Gi Finnish Open Champion (2015 absolute), and NAGA European Champion (2014).

In addition to Tex Johnson, Messi Patsarigov, Jackson Sousa, Kaynan Duarte, Felipe Pena, Craig Jones, and Tim Spriggs competing in the eight-man World Light Heavyweight Championship Tournament at 205lbs, ‘KASAI Pro 5’ will also feature three superfights. The first match that has been announced will be between Romulo Barral vs. Marcos Tinoco.
