October 26, 2017 – New York City, NY – KASAI Elite Grappling Championships (KASAI) has secured agreements to feature Celso Venicius, AJ Agazarm and Gianni Grippo at its upcoming event ‘KASAI Pro’. The three widely acclaimed Jiu-Jitsu veterans will compete in KASAI’s eight-man World Lightweight Championship tournament at 155lbs.

“The signings of ‘Celsinho’, Agazarm and Grippo further cement the credibility of KASAI Pro’s World Lightweight Championship tournament, and underscore our mission to bring the world’s greatest grapplers to Gotham,” said Rolles Gracie, KASAI President. “The exciting blend of styles and backgrounds will ensure KASAI Pro is a must-see December 9.”
Venicius, 33, graduated to black belt under the tutelage of Roberto Correa. A member of Gordo JJ and the Gracie Barra academy system, his landmark achievements include three IBJJF World Jiu-Jitsu Championships (2008, 2006, 2005).
Agazarm, 27, won the 2007 IBJJF World Championship at blue belt in first year of competitive Jiu-Jitsu and received his black belt from Eduardo de Lima and Carlos Gracie Junior in 2013. The Gracie Barra representative would repay their faith one year later by winning the 2014 IBJJF World No-Gi Championships. Agazarm, a former Division I wrestler from Ohio State University,is no stranger to 155lbs, having finished second at last month’s ADCC 2017 World Championships. On the prospect of competing for KASAI, Agazarm shared the following rhyme:
“An event like no other / From my Jiu Jitsu brother / Grappling fans will remember / KASAI! This December.”
A student of the iconic four-time ADCC champion Marcelo Garcia, Grippo enjoys a hometown advantage at KASAI Pro. The 25-year-old New York native has already branded his name on the sport of Jiu-Jitsu with a litany of gi and no-gi IBJJF world championship wins on his path to black belt. In 2017, Grippo has placed first in the IBJJF Pan-American No-Gi and UAEJJF Abu Dhabi Pro championships.
The trio join Garry Tonon, Mansher Khera and Edwin ‘Junny’ Ocasio in KASAI’s eight-man World Lightweight Championship tournament. Ocasio won a 16-man amateur qualifying tournament at The Elite Grappling Championships on October 21 to earn a place in the tournament.
